Waterproof Roofs Liquid Membrane and Coating :

Duro AC:

CETEC Test Certification for roofs, walls, fascias, balconies.

It is a waterproof and UV resistant liquid membrane used either for long-term waterproofing or as a decorative coating. It cures to form a flexible waterproof membrane or coating (by varying the thickness and number of coats) that is resistant to weathering, fungi and algae. Although the membrane is waterproof it allows the substrate to breathe, reducing the risk of blistering. It has been used for over 20 years as a roof membrane and protective coating.

PREPARATION

All surfaces shall be sound, clean, dry and free of release curing agents and other contaminants. Check adhesion by applying to a test area. Concrete to be at least 28 days old, dry and free of voids and blowholes. Make sure painted surfaces are sound and remove any chalking by pressure spray or light detergent wash. Roof decks should be properly drained for long-term service ability of it. A 12mm fillet of neutral cure silicone sealant is to be applied at all surface junctions.

Concrete: Remove laitance or unsound concrete by water blast or mechanical means. Fill all porous or honeycombed concrete with appropriate and approved material. Compressed Fibre cement sheets to be installed as per manufacturers specification and all joints to be sealed. Movement cracks and cold joints to be cut out and filled with neutral cure silicone sealant, then overlaid with DuroAC reinforced with 140mm min. wide bandage.

Note: All sheet joints to have an expansion gap. Seal all surface joints and screw holes with neutral cure silicone sealant, and further seal joints and spread across a min. 20mm of the surface and overlay with tape and DuroAC reinforced with 140mm (min.) wide bandage.

PRIMING

Prime surfaces with one or more coats of WBE at a rate of 4-6 m2/ litre.

APPLICATION

Reinforced

To the prepared surface, apply a first coat by brush or roller at approximate rate of 1litre/m2. Immediately lay the reinforcing fabric into the wet surface, then apply another coat and work in carefully by brush or roller to saturate the fabric. Check when dry and apply a further coat if necessary to give a fully waterproof lining at  the correct DFT. Ensure a minimum coverage of 1.5 litre/m2.

Unreinforced

Where reinforcing fabric is not utilised, apply 3 or more coats of Duro AC for a total usage rate of 1.5 litres/m2, ensuring even coverage by brush or roller.

PRECAUTIONS

Do not apply above 32 C or below 8 C ambient temperature. Be sure coating is cured before contact with water. Wash equipment with water before dry. Do not fix tiles until fully cured, normally 3 - 4 days. Provide sufficient expansion and contraction control joints in overlaying tiling and topping. This is particularly important with FC sheet flooring. Do not expose to solvents. Clean periodically to maintain surface and re-coat when necessary.

CLEANUP

Use fresh water before material has set. Remove cured material with mineral turps. Cured Duromastic AC may be tiled over.

Respiratory Protection

If vapours and mists occur, a respiratory protection program meeting Australian Standards AS- 1716 and AS-1715 requirements must be followed whenever workplace conditions warrant a respirator's use. None required if airborne concentrations are maintained below the exposure limit listed in "Exposure Limit Information"

Eye Protection

Use chemical splash goggles (Australian Standard AS-1337) or approved equivalent. Eye protection worn must be compatible with respiratory protection system employed. An eye wash station and safety shower should be available in the work area.

Hand Protection

Impermeable gloves as necessary to prevent skin contact. E.g. Nitrile or neoprene gloves.

Protective Clothing

Clothing made of the following material has excellent resistance: Tyvec, butyl Nitrile rubber or neoprene.

Engineering Controls (Ventilation)

Use local exhaust ventilation sufficient to maintain exposure levels below exposure limit concentrations. Refer to Australian Standard AS-1668.
