MasterSeal M 210SL

Single component, polyurethane solvent based waterproofing membrane

Description

MasterSeal M 210SL is a liquid applied single pack, highly elastic, moisture-cure polyurethane seamless waterproofing membrane. It creates a tough, continuously elastomeric membrane to achieve long term protection against water ingress.

Recommended Uses

MasterSeal M 210SL is used as waterproofing membrane in a variety of general concrete waterproofing applications including covered areas of commercial and industrial buildings and exterior surfaces subject to light vehicle or pedestrian traffic loads. MasterSeal M210SL provides durable attractive membrane to:

Carpark decks, balconies, plaza decks, rooftops, plant rooms, inverted roofs, under tile beds and as base layer for BASF MasterSeal Traffic Waterproofing systems.

MasterSeal M 210SL Membrane system can be applied to most clean, dry, stable surfaces including concrete, precast segments, fibre cement sheet, CFC, concrete masonry, brick, render, metals and some plastics.

MasterSeal M 210SL meets the requirements of: 

  • AS/NZS 4654.1
  • AS4858:2004 

Green Building Council of Australia in accordance with SCAQMD Method 304-91 Determination of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)

Application

Surface Preparation

The temperature of the substrate must be at least 3 C above the dew point both during and for at least 6 hours after application (at 15 C).

Substrate pre-treatment

All substrates should be sound, clean and dry and free from oil or grease, loose particles and any other substances which may impair adhesion. Concrete and other cementitious substrates must have a minimum pull off strength of 1.5 N/mm2. Any laitance present on the surface must be removed mechanically. Shot blasting or scabbling is the preferred method to achieve a CSP 3 or 4 profile. Release oil and other contaminants which may impair adhesion must be removed prior to application of the primer. For substrate pre-treatment on other substrates, contact your local BASF Construction Chemicals Technical Sales Representative.

Primer

Concrete substrates apply a thin coat of MasterEmaco 2525 (Refer to MasterEmaco product data sheet for mixing procedures.) to the prepared substrate by spreading with a squeegee at the minimum rate of 0.3 - 0.5 L/m2 and finished with a roller. Porous substrates may require a second coat to ensure the surface is fully sealed. Broadcast MasterTop Filler F5 at a rate of 0.8 - 1.0kg/m2 into the still-wet primer to produce a light, even cover. Allow to cure for at least 6 hours before removing all excess sand with a stiff broom and vacuum. Ensure primer has cured to a tackfree state prior to the application of MasterSeal M 210SL.

Membrane

MasterSeal M 210SL is supplied in pails that can be used as mixing and application containers. Before mixing, precondition the drum to a temperature of approximately 15 to 25 C. Empty material from the bladder into the empty drum and mix with a mechanical drill and paddle at a low speed (approx. 300 rpm) for at least 2 minutes or until the colour is homogeneous. The material can be used directly from the bladder as long as the bladder is agitated before opening. MasterSeal M 210SL is poured onto the prepared substrate and spread with a notched trowel or spreader (rubber or steel).Application in two coats is recommended (0.8mm WFT each coat) for high traffic areas. The curing time of the material is influenced by the ambient, material and substrate temperatures. At low temperatures, the chemical reactions are slowed down, this lengthens the pot-life, open time and curing times. High temperatures speed up the chemical reactions thus the time frames mentioned above are shortened accordingly. To fully cure, the material, substrate and application temperatures should not fall below the minimum.

Top coats and wear coats

MasterSeal M 210SL does not have sufficient UV and weather resistance to be used in exposed applications without protection. A number of top coats and wear coats are available, including MasterSeal M 881 (wear-coat for high traffic applications) and MasterSeal TC 465 (UV and weather resistant Top coat) which can be broadcast with dry silica sand to provide a hard wearing, slip resistant finish. Other top coats may be more suitable for specific applications, consult your local BASF Construction Chemicals Technical Representative for further details.

Note: if rain falls, dew occurs on the surface of MasterSeal M 210SL within recoat period following application, then the membrane must be dried and MasterSeal P 692 applied prior to the application of any wear coat or top coat (even if the re-coat interval has not been exceeded) or to join laps between sections.

Estimating Data

One pail of MasterSeal M 210SL will cover an area approximately 13 m2 for a DFT of 1mm. Apply at 1.6kg/m2.

Packaging

MasterSeal M 210SL is available in 15 litre units, weight is 19 kg.

Shelf Life

MasterSeal M 210SL has a shelf life of 9 months. Store out of direct sunlight, clear of the ground on pallets protected from rainfall.
