UV is a tough, durable, elastomeric, single pack, liquid applied, moisture
curing, cross-linking, polyurethane waterproofing membrane - usually grey in
MULTITHANE UV incorporates UV stabilisers, UV absorbers and anti-oxidants to
enable the product to provide greater UV protection and stability than
conventional aromatic polyurethane membranes.
MULTITHANE UV forms a tough, flexible, seamless waterproofing membrane that
bonds well to most suitably primed building substrates
UV is designed to waterproof most applications within the building and
construction industry including:
Terraces, balconies and podiums
But can be used in TILED OR COVERED AREAS
Shower recess & wet areas (floors and upturns)
Decks, balconies, terraces & podiums
Planters and landscaped areas
Water retaining structure
UV is suitable for most building substrates including:
Surfaces should be sound, stable, dry, clean and free of dirt, dust and
contaminates and suitably primed
Brick and block work.
Bitumen (if primed with Primeseal)
information contained in this data sheet is general in nature and refers only
to the usual use of the product and it should not be construed to be a complete
specification. Site conditions vary which may require the use of the products
and related products to vary. For specific projects a written specification
should be sought from the Company.
contains protective technology including UV absorbers and UV blockers to give
the product UV resistance and is therefore suitable for exposed applications.
However, where extended UV resistance is required, MULTITHANE UV should be used
in conjunction with MULTITHANE ATC as the top coat.
UV represents the highest standards in polyurethane waterproofing technology
and provides the following benefits and advantages:
Single pack - no mixing.
Fast curing (usually within 24 hours).
Permanently flexible ( tests show initial flexibility of > 500%)
Suitable for immersion in water.
Can be directly tiled.
Will not bleed or stain grout or tiles.
Available in horizontal (self-levelling) and Vertical Grades (anti-slumping).
Good chemical resistance.
High strength and puncture resistant.
Provides seamless membrane (no joints or laps)
Easily repaired and or maintained.
Odourless (subjective) when cured.
Formulated to provide long term protection.
Easy to apply.
Has good hydrostatic resistance.
Usually grey but can be made in other colours (min qty. apply)
is considered low when properly used but precautions on can, label and / or
data sheets should be observed.
Do not use in confined areas with poor ventilation.
Uncured product is flammable.
The wearing of solvent resistant gloves, coveralls and goggles is recommended
while applying the product.
preparation is essential. Surfaces must be sound, stable, dry, clean and free
of dust, loose, flaking, friable material and substances that may diminish
all cases the recommended primer is PRIMESEAL although in some application
( refer manufacturer) where the moisture content of the surface is very
low MULTISEAL may be used.
If there is any risk of entrapped moisture in the surface, which can cause the
membrane to bubble, then PRIMESEAL must be used. PRIMESEAL may be
applied to slightly damp surfaces but freedom from surface water and continual
dampness is essential as the product will not dry if the surface remains
Apply PRIMESEAL at the minimum rate of 4 sq.m. per litre so that the area
has a uniform and complete coverage. Allow to fully cure before applying
the MULTITHANE UV membrane.
Apply MULTISEAL at the rate of 4 sq. m. per litre, allow to cure and apply
MULTITHANE UV within 48 hours. Ideally, surface should be primed on one day and
the membrane applied the following day.
Note: Excessively porous areas may require an additional coat.
Corners, Joins, Cracks, Gaps, Penetrations and Angles
To wall/floor corners, wall/wall corners and around penetrations apply a
suitable polyurethane joint sealant / mastic to form a fillet. Joins, cracks,
gaps and flange surrounds must be filled and sealed with a suitable
polyurethane joint sealant / mastic.
Plastic and metal angles should be firmly embedded in a bed of polyurethane
joint sealant / mastic that is gap free.
Waste outlets (pipes, flanges) should be rebated into the surface to allow
water to readily drain.
Expansion joins should be filled and sealed with a suitable polyurethane joint
sealant / mastic and allowed to cure. A bond breaker tape should be laid over
the join and then waterproofed using MULTITHANE UV with reinforcing fabric
embedded in the membrane.
UV by brush, roller, broom and squeegee in a minimum of two coats,
usually a day apart so that the minimum dry film thickness in 1.2mm.
If MULTITHANE UV is used with a reinforcing fabric (say joins or
upturns) the application consists of applying a base coat of MULTITHANE UV,
laying the fabric into the wet coat, then apply a saturation coat
of MULTITHANE UV so that the fabric is entirely saturated and covered
with no wrinkles or bubbling and allowed to cure. Apply one or two further
coats of MULTITHANE UV over the area.
MULTITHANE ATC is an aliphatic based polyurethane top coat which extends
the life of the exposed membrane.
When top coating MULTITHANE UV with MULTITHANE ATC, allow MULTITHANE UV to
fully cure and then apply one good coat of MULTITHANE ATC at the
approximate rate of 3 to 4 sq.m. per litre.
stated average coverage rate may vary depending upon type, condition, porosity,
texture of the surface and application technique.
/ use is dependent upon type, porosity, texture and application technique.
MULTITHANE: Generally, 1.5 to 1.6 litres per sq.m. for two coats combined, i.e.
0.75 to 0.80 litres per sq.m. per coat. Average 15 Lt pail usage approximates
PRIMERS: Generally, 4 sq.m. per litre per coat (refer above).
grey. Can be manufactured in some other colours but minimum quantities apply.
and curing of the product is affected by type, dryness and porosity of the
surface, temperature, humidity, ventilation, climate conditions and application
technique and therefore drying and curing can only be given as a guide.
MULTITHANE UV is weather resistant within 6 to 8 hours with full cure within
in cool, dry place away from heat, flame or combustible material.
Product contains flammable solvents.
Class 3 dangerous goods must be declared prior to transportation.
Available in 5 and 15 Lt pails.
spills. They are difficult to clean particularly off porous surfaces.
Wet spills use a cloth and Solvent. Do not clean off carpets as it is better to
allow product to cure and then shave the carpet.
Equipment should be immediately cleaned with Solvent.
Topping or Top Coating
UV can be exposed, covered, topped with sand: cement mix, covered with
geo-textile and pebbles or tiled which will extend its life.
If membrane is to be tiled, dry builders sand should be liberally broadcast
into the last wet coat to provide a mechanical key. Allow to cure then remove
any loose sand. Ensure surface is dry and clean.
Two pack tile adhesives such as Tilefix - Wallaby are recommended.
Acrylic bonding agents can be used in sand:cement mixes for better strength and
When tiling, it is essential that adequate expansion joints are installed in
accordance with good tiling practice and AS3958.1-1991
UV is solvent based. The use of solvent resistant gloves and goggles (against
splashes) are recommended.
If spraying, which is very rare, the use of self contained breathing apparatus
If swallowed do not induce vomiting, give plenty of water to drink. Seek urgent
If in eyes, flush thoroughly with clean water, holding open lid to ensure any
trapped product may be flushed away.
If on skin, remove contaminated clothing and wash skin with soap and water.
If inhaled, unlikely due to viscosity of the product, remove person to fresh
air and apply artificial respiration if required and seek urgent medical
Product is flammable when wet. Keep away from all sources of ignition.
Ensure adequate ventilation. Vapours may collect in low lying areas.
