WPA160 Non Porous primer
WPA 160 is a specialised, solvent free primer, designed to enhance the adhesion of subsequently applied waterproofing membranes, adhesives, toppings and decorative finishes, over porous or non-porous substrates.
The unique formulation ensures outstanding adhesion over difficult to bond to surfaces and offers a safe and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional methods of etching and solvent based primers.
Features and Benefits
-
Solvent free
-
Fast drying
-
Suitable for bonding to a wide range of metals, plastics, glazed, smooth and dense surfaces
-
Excellent adhesion properties
-
Time saving, simplified application
-
Non-tacky
-
Suitable for internal and external applications
-
Can be directly covered with waterproofing membranes, tile adhesives, mortars and paints
Application Procedure
Substrates
Suitable for:
-
Various metals, including aluminium, stainless steel, copper, brass treated steel, Colorbond sheeting, galvanised iron, and Zincalume.
-
Properly prepared precast and tilt up concrete, block work, existing ceramic tiles.
-
Compressed fibre cement sheeting, plasterboard, James HardieTM ScyonTM SecuraTM sheeting, PAA certified structural and marine plywood, glass and rigid plastics.
Preparation
All surfaces to be coated must be firm, clean, dry, sound and smooth. All laitance, grease, oil, wax, curing compounds, loose material, paint and any other contaminants which may
reduce or prevent adhesion must be mechanically removed. Masonry surfaces must be pointed flush and surface defects repaired. New concrete must be cured for a minimum of 28 days.
Fibre cement sheeting, water resistant plasterboard, PAA certified structural and marine plywood and James HardieTM ScyonTM SecuraTM sheeting must be installed in accordance with the manufacturers’ installation requirements.
Application
Stir the contents thoroughly prior to application. Apply WPA 160 by brush, roller (short nap) or sprayer to obtain a consistent and even coating. Apply a second coat to achieve full surface coverage if required. Allow the first coat to fully dry before applying the second coat of WPA 160 at right angles to the first coat. WPA 160 must be applied at a minimum coverage of 1lire/12m2
Performance Data and Physical Properties @23oC & 55% RH
Allow 30 minutes before over coating with selected finishes.
Allow longer drying times in cool or damp weather conditions.

Limitations
-
Do not apply WPA 160:
-
Over damp, wet or contaminated substrates.
-
If it is raining or if rain is imminent.
-
Directly over any existing coatings
-
As a primer for solvent based coatings.
-
Directly over particle board flooring. (Ceramic tile underlay must be installed).
-
Where the ambient or surface temperatures are below 10oC or greater than 35oC.
-
To areas subject to negative hydrostatic pressure or rising damp.
-
To eliminate possible surface contamination, it is recommended that surface finishes/toppings be applied as soon as primer has dried and cured.
Clean Up
Clean tools and equipment with warm water and detergent while the membrane is still wet.
Packaging
4 litre and 10 litre plastic pails.
Coverage
1litre/12m2
The coverage figures are theoretical due to wastage, and depending on the porosity and profile of the substrate, coverage figures may be reduced.
Shelf Life
Unopened pails can be stored for up to 12 months in a cool, dry and weatherproof environment.
First Aid
If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre (Phone Australia 131 126).
Inhalation
Remove victim from exposure - avoid becoming a casualty. Remove contaminated clothing and loosen remaining clothing. Allow patient to assume most comfortable position and keep warm. Keep at rest until fully recovered. Seek medical advice if effects persist.
Skin Contact
If skin or hair contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and flush skin and hair with running water. If swelling, redness, blistering or irritation occurs seek medical assistance.
Eye Contact
If in eyes, wash out immediately with water. In all cases of eye contamination it is a sensible precaution to seek medical advice.
Ingestion
Rinse mouth with water. If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Give a glass of water to drink. Never give anything by the mouth to an unconscious patient. If vomiting occurs give further water. Seek medical advice.
Notes To Physician
Treat symptomatically.
Spills
Prevent from entering drains or waterways. Absorb with sand, earth or spill control material. Collect in properly labelled containers for disposal in accordance with local statuary requirement
