For bathrooms with FC or timber floors, waterproof with Wrimco SBS membrane on the floor and Acrylic on the shower walls.
Day 1
First check that drains are correctly placed with the top of the flanged drain flush with floor and pipe drains set down 3-4mm and connected. The bottom 150 of studs and corners should be shaved 3mm, corners 6mm and noggins should be fixed between studs to 150. Alternatively, glue 3mm strips to studs above 150 so that the FC sheet will not be pushed out at the bottom. If the floor is timber, glue 20 x 20 triangular fillets around the perimeter.
Scrape, sweep and/or vacuum the area.
Torch detailing fillets 30 x 30 around perimeters and to PVC upstands after first wrapping with a SBS sleeve. Detail pipe drains with small sections of SBS.
Torch over the entire floor including drains and up 150mm.
Torch in aluminum angle after agreeing on the size and location with the tiler and builder so that the top of the angle is to tile height across doorways and shower areas. Seal ends with small sections of SBS.
Water test (if leaving overnight, next morning the builder can cut a hole in the drain to let out any water after checking OK).
Day 2
After the walls have been sheeted (with protection board on the membrane) leaving a 20mm gap at the bottom and vertical corners caulked.
Seal off drains neatly and check/repair any damage.
Prime shower walls to 2.0m and perimeters to 150 with Wrimco Duroprime ARW and apply first coat of Wrimco Duromastic ACS, taking particular care to seal off the bottom of sheets in the shower area.
Once dry, apply the second coat of Wrimco Duromastic ACS (use a convection heater if necessary to speed up the drying or do the next day).
Note
:
If the bathroom is already sheeted, terminate SBS to within 10mm of the final tile height, except in shower area where it should come up 20 above the final tile height. The tiler should grind off 3mm 20 from the tile edge so that it will fit flush.
If walls are to be rendered, torch 150 to brickwork and burn off polyfilm and throw dry sand to assist adhesion before rendering. If already rendered, grind off tile and proceed as above.
After the mortar bed has dried, it is good practice to caulk around the perimeter with Wrimco PU25 sealant and apply ARW followed by 2 coats of ACS to the mortar bed, particularly in the shower area. This prevents discolouration of porous tiles such as travertine, marble and efflorescence at the joints.
